Woman killed in alleged hit-and-run after being struck by truck in Phoenix

A woman was killed after she was reportedly struck by a concrete truck while attempting to cross Phoenix Highway, opposite Rydalvale Grounds in Phoenix, KwaZulu-Natal, on Friday.

The Reaction Unit South Africa (RUSA) Operations Centre received multiple calls from members of the public reporting that a woman was lying in the middle of the highway.

Reaction Officers were dispatched to the scene and found the woman, estimated to be about 30 years old, fatally injured.

According to RUSA, she had reportedly been attempting to cross the highway when she was struck by a concrete truck. The driver allegedly failed to stop and left the scene.

A delivery motorcyclist also lost control of his motorcycle and fell while attempting to avoid colliding with the pedestrian.

RUSA paramedics treated the motorcyclist at the scene.

The woman was declared deceased.

The circumstances surrounding the collision and the alleged hit-and-run remain subject to investigation.
