Mpho Dagada has confirmed that he is safe after a series of alarming Facebook posts in which he claimed that he was being followed by hitmen and feared he could be killed.
Dagada issued a statement on Friday evening, saying he was “currently safe” and thanking people who had reached out, prayed for him and shared his posts.
The confirmation comes after Dagada spent much of Thursday raising the alarm about his safety, including claims that he was followed to OR Tambo International Airport.
At one point, he alleged that 19 hitmen were following him at the airport and claimed that a $5 million bounty had been offered for his killing. He also claimed that a man had followed him to the airport and that he was being targeted over information he said he had uncovered.
In another post, Dagada warned his followers that if he did not go live that night, they should assume he had been killed.
He did not go live, prompting concern among people following his posts. At the time, there was no independent confirmation that he had been killed or harmed. (Kurrently)
Dagada has now confirmed that he survived the ordeal.
“I want to officially let you know that I am currently safe.”
He described the events of the previous 24 hours as “incredibly harrowing” and specifically thanked the Sandton Police, claiming that officers rescued him when he was in danger.
Dagada also said the issues he had raised concerning the Arise South Africa accounts and what he described as the deletion of financial evidence remained unresolved.
His earlier claims included allegations that billions of dollars had been laundered through an Arise South Africa account. Those allegations have not been independently verified. (Kurrently)
For now, Dagada says his priority is his physical safety and recovering from what he described as the ordeal.
He ended his statement by thanking the public for their prayers, vigilance and support, confirming that he is “secure and out of immediate danger.”
