Mantashe tells voters to remember ANC’s basic services when they vote in November

ANC national chairperson Gwede Mantashe has urged voters to remember the basic services delivered under the ANC when they cast their ballots in November’s local government elections.

Speaking during the party’s election campaign, Mantashe called on ANC volunteers to remind communities about what he described as the party’s record over three decades, including RDP housing, access to education, electricity, social grants and healthcare.

Mantashe urged ANC supporters to take that message directly into communities as the party campaigns ahead of the 4 November 2026 local government elections.

“Please vote for the ANC on November 4 and pass the message to others…”

He also rejected the suggestion that reminding voters about government services amounted to attempting to buy their support.

“It’s our duty to provide service,”

Mantashe’s comments come as the ANC campaigns to rebuild support ahead of the local elections after losing its national majority in the 2024 general election.

The party is campaigning on its record of government delivery while also acknowledging ongoing problems in local government. The ANC’s 2026 local government manifesto includes commitments around water, electricity, sanitation, roads and other municipal services.

The election will determine who governs South Africa’s municipalities, with service delivery, water, electricity, roads, refuse removal and municipal governance among the key issues facing voters.
