Two Bodies Recovered From Crocodile River Near Nelspruit as Search Continues for Possible Third Victim

Police have recovered the bodies of two young people from the Crocodile River near Kamagugu, while concerns are growing that a third victim may still be missing.

The South African Police Service Search and Rescue Team successfully recovered the bodies on Sunday, 7 June 2026.

The deceased have been identified as a 20-year-old man and a woman believed to be between the ages of 18 and 23.

In a dramatic development, as search teams were preparing to leave the scene, another family arrived and informed police that their son had reportedly been travelling in the same vehicle involved in the incident.

According to the family, the young man has not returned home and repeated attempts to contact him on his cellphone have been unsuccessful.

The family fears that he may be the third occupant of the vehicle and could still be missing in the river.

Police search and rescue personnel are expected to continue operations in the area as they work to determine whether a third victim remains trapped or submerged in the water.

Authorities have opened a case of culpable homicide, and investigations into the circumstances that led to the tragedy are ongoing.
