Fannie Malope Seribishane has been sentenced to life imprisonment for the murder of his wife, nurse Mumsy Seribishane, who was shot and killed outside Lebowakgomo Hospital while arriving for her night shift.
The murder shocked South Africa in October 2024 after Mumsy was gunned down just moments after arriving at the hospital where she worked.
Following an investigation, police arrested her husband, Fannie Seribishane, and linked him to the crime through evidence that was later presented in court.
During the trial, the court heard that Mumsy had previously obtained a protection order against her husband and had initiated divorce proceedings before her death.
Seribishane was found guilty of murder, violating a protection order and firearm-related offences. The court heard that ballistic evidence connected the murder weapon to a firearm found in his possession.
On sentencing, the court imposed a life sentence, bringing to a close a case that sparked outrage across the country and renewed calls for stronger action against gender-based violence.
Mumsy’s death deeply affected the healthcare community, with colleagues and supporters describing her as a dedicated nurse whose life was cut short while simply reporting for duty.
