Mpho Dagada says he is being followed and fears for his life

Former political figure Mpho Dagada has raised alarm over his personal safety, claiming that people have been following him and that he fears he could be killed.

In a series of Facebook posts on Thursday, Dagada said he was being followed after visiting a bank and later travelling to OR Tambo International Airport.

“Guys I am not safe, my life is in danger, they want to kill me,” Dagada wrote.

In another post, he claimed that a man had followed him to OR Tambo Airport.

Dagada also alleged that what he described as a “Mafia” group was targeting him because of information he had allegedly uncovered.

“If anything happens to me, please justice, I can not be killed for exposing the truth.”

He further alleged that the Arise South Africa political party’s account had been hacked and was being used to launder money. Dagada claimed the alleged operation involved billions of dollars, including a figure of $19 billion.

He also accused Standard Bank of allowing criminal activity to take place through what he described as a youth-led political party, alleging that raising the matter had put his life in danger.

These allegations have not been independently verified, and no evidence confirming the alleged $19-billion money-laundering operation or a plot to kill Dagada was immediately available.

Dagada said Sandton police had intervened after he allegedly realised he was being followed.

“I want to thank Sandton Police who rescued me,” he wrote, while also claiming that he had been followed after leaving a bank.

The posts have prompted concern among people following Dagada, particularly because he repeatedly described himself as being in danger and urged his followers to screenshot and repost his messages.

Standard Bank has previously addressed separate social-media allegations concerning fraud. In a March 2026 statement, the bank said cases circulating online included matters dating back to 2011 that had been investigated, while stating that it had no evidence at the time of elevated fraud activity. There has been no independent confirmation linking that earlier statement to the allegations made by Dagada on Thursday.

Dagada’s latest claims remain allegations, and any investigation by police or other authorities would be necessary to establish whether he was targeted, followed or threatened and to determine the veracity of the wider claims he has made.
