The Madlanga Commission of Inquiry has granted an application for former Crime Intelligence Deputy Head Major-General Feroz Khan’s evidence to be heard behind closed doors.
Khan is expected to testify privately on Tuesday, 6 October 2026, with the proceedings to take place in camera.
The closed hearing will deal with Khan’s response to evidence that was previously led before the Commission on 7 and 9 July.
Only the Commission’s bench, relevant evidence leaders, attorneys and Khan’s legal representative will be permitted to attend the in-camera proceedings. Those granted access will also be prohibited from publishing, broadcasting or otherwise placing recordings of the closed proceedings in the public domain. (SABC News)
The application for the private hearing was motivated in part by concerns that sensitive information could expose police informants and compromise ongoing investigations involving organised crime. (Jacaranda FM)
Khan’s appearance comes after a turbulent period in his dealings with the Commission.
Last week, Commission chairperson Justice Mbuyiseli Madlanga ordered that criminal charges be pursued against Khan after he failed to appear before the inquiry despite being subpoenaed.
Madlanga described his non-attendance as a “flagrant disregard” of the Commission’s subpoena. (SABC News)
Khan’s testimony will therefore take place away from the public eye, with the Commission set to hear his evidence under strict confidentiality on Tuesday.
