Kubayi takes legal action against Facebook user Baas Kruger over alleged cyberbullying and disinformation

Minister of Justice and Constitutional Development Mmamoloko Kubayi has announced plans to take legal action against the individual operating the Facebook account known as “Baas Kruger”, accusing the account of repeatedly spreading false allegations about her.

In a statement issued by the Ministry of Justice and Constitutional Development, the department said the account had made serious allegations against the minister on several occasions and continued to circulate claims it described as false and misleading.

According to the ministry, Kubayi had repeatedly appealed to the account operator to stop spreading the allegations, but those appeals were ignored.

The department said the minister had consequently decided to pursue legal action to protect her dignity and reputation and hold those responsible accountable.

The latest controversy follows the circulation of a video clip from a doorstep interview at the ANC’s Siyanqoba Rally in the Eastern Cape.

During the interview, SABC journalist Samkele Maseko asked Kubayi about the March and March movement being “squeezed like cranberries”.

However, the ministry maintains that the phrase was used by the journalist in his question and was not spoken by Kubayi herself.

“The Minister did not utter these words, and any claim suggesting otherwise is false and misleading,” the statement reads.

The ministry said Kubayi strongly condemned what it described as a disinformation campaign and would not allow the matter to go unchallenged.

It added that while the minister remained accountable for her own statements, attributing words she did not say to her was unacceptable.

The legal action marks an escalation in the minister’s efforts to address allegations and content circulated about her on social media.
