Emtee Granted Bail After Allegedly Violating Protection Order Obtained by Wife

South African rapper Emtee has been granted R1,000 bail after spending a night in custody at the Midrand Police Station.

The award-winning musician appeared in the Midrand Magistrate’s Court on allegations that he violated a protection order obtained by his wife, Nicole Chinsamy, in 2023. The order reportedly prohibits him from verbally abusing or harassing her, including on social media.

Emtee’s court appearance drew support from family members, his manager and fellow musician Sjava, who attended proceedings.

According to reports, Emtee handed himself over to police on Wednesday before being formally charged with violating the protection order.

The allegations stem from an incident that reportedly occurred on 4 June at Nicole’s Midrand home. It is alleged that the rapper entered the property unexpectedly while Nicole was bathing their daughter. Sources claim he grabbed a knife from the kitchen and made threats against Nicole’s family. These allegations have not yet been tested in court.

As part of his bail conditions, Emtee has been ordered not to post or publish anything about the matter on social media, whether directly or indirectly. He has also been instructed to refrain from communicating with the complainant. The court warned that any breach of these conditions could result in his immediate arrest.

The latest legal developments come after years of public turmoil between the couple. Both Emtee and Nicole have previously made allegations against one another on social media, including claims of abuse and sharing photographs of injuries and damage allegedly sustained during disputes.

The couple’s relationship has experienced several public ups and downs. Emtee filed for divorce in 2023 before the pair later reconciled and welcomed a third child together. However, reports indicate that the rapper moved out of their shared home earlier this year.

The musician is expected to return to court on 13 July 2026 as the matter continues.
