ATM Leader Vuyo Zungula Claims Death Threats Were Not Taken Seriously by Authorities

Vuyo Zungula has revealed that he received multiple death threats following his party’s calls for accountability over President Cyril Ramaphosa and the controversial Phala Phala scandal.

Speaking on the Unpopular Opinion Podcast, Zungula said he reported the threats to authorities and opened a criminal case, but believes the matter was not treated with the seriousness it deserved.

According to the ATM leader, the threats came during a period when the African Transformation Movement was among the most vocal parties demanding accountability and answers regarding the Phala Phala matter.

Zungula expressed concern about the handling of politically related cases, arguing that despite the existence of a specialised task team focused on political killings and politically motivated violence, some complaints are not adequately investigated.

He said the experience left him frustrated and raised broader concerns about the protection of political leaders and activists who may face threats because of their work.

The ATM leader’s remarks have reignited discussion around political violence, the effectiveness of law enforcement responses and the safety of public representatives involved in contentious political matters.

Authorities have not publicly responded to Zungula’s latest claims.
