Tshingana delivers November groceries to Mdantsane Gogo humiliated for shoplifting

Mandisi Tshingana has delivered November groceries to the elderly Mdantsane woman who made headlines after being filmed during an alleged shoplifting incident at Shoprite, with donations raised for her ensuring that she continues receiving assistance for the next six months.

The latest update follows an overwhelming public response after a video showing the elderly woman being searched by security personnel went viral in October.

Tshingana initially pledged to raise R10,000 to assist Gogo with groceries. However, the fundraising campaign quickly exceeded expectations, with R47,249 raised by 7am the following morning. The total subsequently surpassed R50,000, as South Africans continued contributing towards her needs.

The funds were intended to provide groceries and other essential assistance to the woman and her family, including her grandchildren.

In his latest social media post, Tshingana confirmed that Gogo had received her November groceries, thanking everyone who contributed to the initiative.

“November groceries done and dusted. We remember, and we continue to care,” he wrote.

He emphasised that the initiative was about more than providing food, but also about restoring dignity and ensuring that the elderly woman continued receiving support even after public attention had moved on.

“Human dignity means being seen, valued and supported beyond the moment your story makes headlines,” Tshingana said.

He added that the donations had helped put food on Gogo’s table and reminded her that she was not alone.

The funds raised will ensure that she continues receiving assistance for the next six months, providing some stability and relief for her household.

The initiative has attracted widespread appreciation, with many praising Tshingana and the donors for turning a distressing public incident into an ongoing effort to support a vulnerable member of the community.
