Social media influencer Mandisi Tshingana has raised more than R65,000 in a single day through two separate fundraising initiatives supporting different causes.
In one initiative, Tshingana raised approximately R40,000 in just six hours to assist 20-year-old Likho Zondi from Ngqamakhwe in the Eastern Cape, who had expressed concern about his inability to attend an initiation school and complete the associated traditional ceremonies.

Zondi’s situation was brought to public attention by social media user Likho Zondi, who shared an appeal explaining that the young man was facing difficult circumstances and had lost hope of undergoing initiation.
The appeal explained that Zondi’s mother lives in Cape Town and is struggling financially, while he is being raised by his grandmother, who is also facing challenges.
The appeal prompted an emotional response from social media users, with Tshingana mobilising his followers to contribute towards the young man’s needs.
The funds are intended to assist Zondi with the expenses associated with Umgidi Wephondo, a traditional Xhosa celebration linked to the return of young men after initiation.
In a separate fundraising effort on Friday, Tshingana also raised approximately R25,000 to support members of the March and March movement.
The money was intended to help cover transport and other logistical expenses for supporters travelling to attend proceedings at the Durban High Court involving movement leader Jacinta Ngobese-Zuma, her husband and lawyer Xolani Zuma, and the Minister of Police’s interdict application.
The two initiatives brought the reported fundraising total to more than R65,000 within a single day.
The fundraising efforts have highlighted how social media platforms can be used to mobilise financial support for individuals facing personal difficulties and for organised activities.
