Sibiya has received an estimated R2.4 million in salary since being placed on special leave

Suspended Lieutenant-General Shadrack Sibiya has disclosed in court that he earns a gross monthly salary of R158,652.18 — a figure that means he has received an estimated R2.4 million in gross salary since he was placed on special leave in July 2025.

Sibiya disclosed his financial position during his bail proceedings in the Randburg Magistrates’ Court, stating that his monthly net salary is R83,382.75, while he remains employed by the South African Police Service despite his suspension.

Sibiya was placed on special leave in July 2025, with the arrangement subsequently treated as a suspension. His remuneration was not affected by the stay-at-home order.

Using the gross monthly salary he disclosed in court, the calculation for the 15 full months from July 2025 to September 2026 is:

R158,652.18 × 15 = R2,379,782.70

Adding an estimated three days of October brings the amount to approximately R2.4 million in gross salary received over the period.

The calculation is an estimate based on Sibiya’s currently disclosed monthly salary. It does not account for possible salary adjustments, the exact payment made for July 2025, deductions, bonuses or any other remuneration.

Sibiya remains employed as a lieutenant-general in SAPS while suspended and is currently in custody as his bail application continues.

His bail hearing is expected to continue next week.
