A young pharmacist, Nomzila Madinane, was reportedly shot and killed just a week after opening a new pharmacy in KwaNyuswa, Hillcrest, in what has left many community members devastated.
It is believed that Madinane had identified a gap in the market, after noticing that residents in the area were often forced to travel long distances to access pharmacies and medication.
In an effort to serve the community, she reportedly opened a pharmacy closer to residents — a move many say was aimed at making healthcare more accessible.
However, tragedy struck when three armed men allegedly stormed the pharmacy and opened fire.
Nomzila was fatally shot and killed alongside her cashier during the attack.
A security guard who reportedly attempted to intervene was also shot. He was rushed to hospital, where he is currently fighting for his life.
The motive behind the deadly shooting remains unclear, and police investigations are expected to determine whether the incident was linked to robbery or another possible motive.
The killing has sparked outrage and heartbreak, with many mourning a young professional who reportedly sought to uplift her community by bringing essential healthcare services closer to home.
