Mofokeng Makes Instant Impact with Assist on Union SG Debut

Relebohile Mofokeng wasted little time announcing himself at Belgian champions Royal Union Saint-Gilloise (Union SG), providing an assist in his first pre-season appearance as the club played out an entertaining 3-3 draw against Dutch giants PSV Eindhoven.

The 21-year-old South African forward featured in his maiden outing for Union SG during the club’s training camp in the Netherlands, producing a composed display that was capped by an assist as both sides shared six goals in an entertaining friendly.

Mofokeng, who recently completed his move from Orlando Pirates to the Belgian Pro League champions, looked comfortable in his new surroundings and immediately showed the creativity and attacking quality that made him one of South Africa’s brightest young talents.

The pre-season fixture formed part of Union SG’s preparations for the 2026/27 campaign, with the Belgian side testing themselves against reigning Dutch champions PSV. Although the match ended in a thrilling draw, Mofokeng’s contribution will undoubtedly please both the coaching staff and supporters eager to see the Bafana Bafana star settle into European football.

His encouraging debut performance is another positive sign that the transition from the Betway Premiership to one of Europe’s competitive leagues could be a smooth one, with South African fans expected to closely follow his progress throughout the season.
