Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) leader Julius Malema has launched a verbal attack on March and March leader Jacinta Ngobese-Zuma, questioning her national political influence and accusing her movement of benefiting from tribalistic and xenophobic politics.
Speaking during a press briefing, Malema dismissed Ngobese-Zuma’s political standing and challenged her to organise demonstrations in other parts of the country, including Lekwa-Teemane and Musina.
“So March and March, she’s nobody, no, she is nothing. If she thinks she’s a national player, she must go and march in Lekwa-Teemane. I want to see something there. She must go and march in Musina,” Malema said.
He further accused the movement of using tribalism and xenophobia to attract resources, describing its activities as transactional and questioning what it stood for.
Malema also compared March and March to Mapogo a Mathamaga, a former security group, saying the movement would eventually disappear.
“Before you know it, it will be gone like a once-vigilante group, Mapogo a Mathamaga. People used to be scared of them, but they are gone because it’s a vigilante group. We are not part of vigilante groups,” he said.
The remarks come amid continued political tensions surrounding March and March and its campaign against undocumented immigration.
Ngobese-Zuma has repeatedly rejected accusations of xenophobia, maintaining that the movement’s campaign is directed at undocumented immigrants and calls for stricter enforcement of immigration laws. The movement has also attracted criticism over allegations of intimidation and violence associated with some anti-immigration protests.
