Mbalula claims Zuma played Maskandi music for Ntuli during 2024 coalition talks

ANC Secretary-General Fikile Mbalula has shared an account of an alleged meeting between the ANC and former president Jacob Zuma following the 2024 general elections, when the party was exploring possible coalition arrangements.

Mbalula claims the ANC sent then KwaZulu-Natal ANC chairperson Mdumiseni Ntuli to Zuma’s home in Nkandla to discuss coalition possibilities and the formation of a government of national unity (GNU).

According to Mbalula, however, the meeting did not proceed as expected, with Zuma allegedly spending the day playing Maskandi music for Ntuli.

The anecdote offers a glimpse into the difficulties the ANC faced in attempting to engage the uMkhonto weSizwe (MK) Party after the 2024 elections.

At the time, the MK Party had emerged as a major political force in KwaZulu-Natal, while the ANC was seeking possible partners following its loss of an outright national majority.

The account has not been independently verified.
