SANDF troops arrive in Durban CBD following violent anti-immigration protests

Members of the South African National Defence Force (SANDF) have arrived in Durban’s central business district as authorities move to restore calm following violent anti-immigration protests that left vehicles burnt and buildings severely vandalised.

The soldiers arrived in a convoy of three military vehicles following their deployment amid last week’s unrest.

The protests, held against illegal immigration, were accompanied by incidents of destruction, with several vehicles set alight and buildings reportedly damaged.

The military presence comes as authorities respond to the unrest and seek to protect people and property while maintaining public order.

The arrival of SANDF members marks a heightened security response in the city following the violence.
