President Cyril Ramaphosa’s urgent application to stop the commencement of the parliamentary impeachment inquiry against him has now officially been set down for hearing.
The matter will be heard on 15 and 16 July 2026 in the Western Cape High Court.
Ramaphosa is seeking an interdict to suspend the impeachment process while the court considers his separate review application challenging the findings of the Section 89 independent panel report into the Phala Phala scandal.
The President argues that the impeachment process should not continue before the court determines whether the panel’s findings were lawful and constitutionally sound.
The legal move comes after renewed momentum around impeachment proceedings following recent court developments relating to Parliament’s handling of the matter.
The upcoming July hearing is expected to play a major role in determining whether Parliament proceeds with the impeachment inquiry or pauses the process pending the outcome of Ramaphosa’s review application.
