Major League Soccer (MLS) in the USA has published the salaries of its players, giving a look at what South Africans in the league are earning this season.
The list shows four SA players earning between R4.6 million and R18.8 million per year, with Minnesota United’s Bongokuhle Hlongwane leading the pack.

Bongokuhle Hlongwane: $1,142,500 per year ≈ R18.8 million/year | R1.56 million/month
Mbkezeli Mbokazi: $655,620 per year ≈ R10.8 million/year | R900,530/month
Olwethu Makhanya: $338,875 per year ≈ R5.6 million/year | R465,463/month
Puso Dithejane: $283,252 per year ≈ R4.6 million/year | R389,062/month
Hlongwane, now in his fourth season with Minnesota United, remains one of the highest-earning South Africans abroad. Mbokazi, who joined MLS this year, has slotted in as the second-highest paid SA player in the league with a salary just under R11 million annually.
