Businessman Vusimuzi “Cat” Matlala, who gained notoriety over the Tembisa Hospital tender, allegedly claimed to have close ties with several senior police officers, the Madlanga Commission of Inquiry heard this week.
A member of the Gauteng Counterintelligence Operations Unit, identified as Witness C, told the commission that Matlala began name-dropping top police officials during a raid at his Centurion home in December.
According to Witness C, Matlala mentioned Deputy National Commissioner Shadrack Sibiya, General Feroz Khan, General Shibiri, and claimed to be related to General Senona.
The witness said he believed the remarks were meant to intimidate investigators, who were searching Matlala’s property for his former business partner, Jerry Boshoga, who remains missing after being kidnapped.
