Legendary Musician Oskido Honoured With Order of Ikhamanga by President Ramaphosa

South African music icon Oskido, whose real name is Oscar “Oskido” Mdlongwa, has been awarded the prestigious Order of Ikhamanga in recognition of his immense contribution to the country’s music industry.

The honour was bestowed by Cyril Ramaphosa during the National Orders investiture ceremony held in Pretoria on 19 May 2026.

Oskido was recognised for his significant role in shaping South Africa’s music landscape, having spent decades influencing the local entertainment industry as a DJ, producer, entrepreneur and mentor to emerging artists.

Widely regarded as one of the pioneers of Kwaito music, Oskido has played a major role in launching and supporting the careers of numerous artists while helping popularise South African sounds both locally and internationally.

The Order of Ikhamanga is one of South Africa’s highest national honours and is awarded to citizens who have excelled in fields such as arts, culture, music, literature, journalism and sport.
