DURBAN – KwaZulu-Natal Police Commissioner Nhlanhla Mkhwanazi is set to remain in his position after confirmation that his contract will be renewed for another term.
National Police Commissioner Fannie Masemola announced that discussions to extend Mkhwanazi’s contract are currently being finalised. The contract was initially due to expire at the end of March.
“We are in the process of finalising those details. So yes, he will still be Provincial Commissioner of KZN,” said Masemola.
“We have got a good work relationship and the Premier agreed to the renewal of the contract. So, we are just working on modalities,” he added.
The renewal has also received backing from Thamsanqa Ntuli, the KwaZulu-Natal Premier, who earlier this year formally endorsed the extension.
Mkhwanazi’s continued leadership comes amid ongoing efforts to combat crime in the province, with authorities emphasising stability and continuity within the police service.
Further details regarding the duration and terms of the renewed contract are expected to be announced once finalised.
