New details have emerged following the tragic killing of young pharmacist Nomzila Bayabonga Madinane, with her family alleging that her life had been threatened prior to her murder — reportedly by a former partner.
The 27-year-old pharmacist, who recently opened a pharmacy in KwaNyuswa, Hillcrest, was shot and killed alongside her cashier, Melissa Sbanda, after three armed men allegedly stormed the premises and opened fire.
The deadly incident occurred just a week after the pharmacy had opened, a business Nomzila reportedly established after identifying a need for easier access to medication in the area, where residents often had to travel long distances for pharmaceutical services.
A security officer who reportedly attempted to intervene during the attack was also shot and rushed to hospital, where he remains fighting for his life.
According to Nomzila’s family, concerns had allegedly been raised before her death, with claims that she had previously received threats from a former partner.
At this stage, it remains unclear whether the alleged threats are linked to the fatal shooting, and authorities have not confirmed any motive or identified suspects connected to the killings.
The shocking murder of the young pharmacist and her cashier has sparked grief and outrage, with many community members mourning the loss of a young professional who sought to bring healthcare services closer to her community.
