Family Demands Justice After Sandra Mamaila Death Case ‘Disappears’ — Docket Missing

The family of Sandra Mathabathe Mamaila says they are devastated after learning that the case linked to her death has allegedly been closed and the police docket has gone missing.

Mamaila died in 2021 following a crash involving a Hyundai i10 she was travelling in and a Mercedes-Benz G-Wagon reportedly driven by Kagiso Lerutla, the City Manager of Ekurhuleni.

The family says they were left shocked after being informed that the case had effectively “disappeared”, raising serious concerns about accountability and justice.

Case linked to fatal crash now unclear

According to the family, the matter has not progressed since the accident, and the revelation that the docket cannot be found has deepened their frustration.

The disappearance of a case docket can significantly affect investigations, often making it difficult for prosecutors to proceed with charges.

Lerutla currently facing separate legal matter

Lerutla is currently before the courts on a separate case dating back to 2019, where he is accused of driving at excessive speed and allegedly paying another individual to impersonate him in court.

He was granted bail of R30,000, alongside co-accused Julius Mkhwanazi.

The development has raised further questions about whether Lerutla could still face legal consequences in connection with Mamaila’s death, particularly as the original case appears to have stalled.

Family calls for accountability

Mamaila’s family says they remain determined to pursue justice and want authorities to explain how a case of this nature could be closed without resolution and how critical evidence such as a docket could go missing.

The matter highlights broader concerns around case management and accountability within the criminal justice system, especially in cases involving fatalities.
