South African singer Naledi Aphiwe has broken her silence following reports that she lost a multi-million rand endorsement deal after controversial comments she made on social media resurfaced online.
According to reports, the rising star had been in line to secure an endorsement agreement worth nearly R5 million with candy brand Stumbo. The deal was expected to include a major advertising campaign featuring the singer on multiple billboards.
However, the partnership is said to have collapsed after past social media remarks about her ex-boyfriend Mawelele and his new girlfriend began circulating online again.
Naledi had previously posted playful but controversial comments on Facebook, where she allegedly compared Mawelele’s new girlfriend to Shein, a remark that drew criticism from social media users. She was also accused by some users of making body-shaming comments during exchanges with fans.
Singer Claims Someone Is Targeting Her Career
After several days of silence, Naledi addressed the situation in a statement, suggesting that someone may be trying to sabotage her career.
“If you hear that I am dead, do not get shocked. I am so tired and fed up. I hope everyone who is trying to destroy my career will be happy,” she wrote.
The statement quickly sparked mixed reactions online. While some users criticised her earlier comments and urged public figures to be mindful of their words on social media, others expressed concern for the singer and encouraged her to seek support during what appears to be a difficult period.
Naledi Aphiwe, who rose to prominence through viral music releases and collaborations, has built a growing fan base in recent years. The controversy, however, has highlighted the pressures that often accompany rapid fame and the lasting impact that social media posts can have on public careers.
Neither Naledi Aphiwe nor the Stumbo brand has officially confirmed the details of the reported endorsement deal.
