Traditional healer Dr Khehlelezi wins eThekwini Ward 60 for MK Party

Popular traditional healer and television personality Dr Khehlelezi has secured victory in eThekwini’s Ward 60, representing the uMkhonto weSizwe (MK) Party, according to the latest available election results.

Dr Khehlelezi, whose real name is Bhongolethu Mzozo, contested the ward in the Verulam area, north of Durban.

The latest results show the MK Party leading the Ward 60 ballot with 3,846 votes, representing 38.2% of the valid votes counted. The ANC was in second place with 2,737 votes (27.2%), followed by the DA with 2,066 votes (20.5%). All six voting districts in the ward were included in the available count. (EskomSePush)

Mzozo had previously spoken about his decision to contest the ward, saying he accepted the nomination because residents wanted him to represent them.

In an interview with Daily Sun in August, he said he had joined the MK Party because he supported former president Jacob Zuma and believed in his commitment to developing black communities.

He also said he was not joining politics to pursue positions, but was willing to serve if residents entrusted him with the responsibility. (dailysun)

His election marks a move from his public profile as a traditional healer into local government politics.
