Jacob Zuma reportedly admitted to Pietermaritzburg hospital

Former president Jacob Zuma has reportedly been admitted to a hospital in Pietermaritzburg, KwaZulu-Natal, after reportedly becoming unwell while attending an event in Msinga on Tuesday.

According to reports emerging on Wednesday, 7 October, the 84-year-old Zuma was taken to the hospital by ambulance and subsequently admitted.

The exact nature of his condition has not been disclosed.

The Witness reported that multiple sources had confirmed Zuma remains in hospital, although his family and the uMkhonto weSizwe Party had not officially confirmed the hospitalisation at the time of publication. (The Witness)

Mzwanele Manyi, spokesperson for the JG Zuma Foundation, declined to comment on the reports, questioning why Zuma’s hospital visit was being treated as a major news story.

The reports come as Zuma, who served as South Africa’s president from 2009 to 2018, continues his political activities as leader of the MK Party.

Further details about his condition are expected once his family or representatives issue an official statement.

This is a developing story.
