Geordin Hill-Lewis, leader of the Democratic Alliance in the Government of National Unity, says President Cyril Ramaphosa decided to remove former Social Development Minister Sisisi Tolashe after he had called for her dismissal.
Hill-Lewis claims he urged Ramaphosa to fire Tolashe, arguing that changes were needed in the Department of Social Development, and says the President has now acted on that call.
His remarks come shortly after Ramaphosa officially removed Tolashe from Cabinet and appointed Sindisiwe Chikunga as acting minister while a permanent replacement is considered.
Hill-Lewis has recently been outspoken on national leadership matters. He previously stated that he was prepared to step in as acting President if Ramaphosa had resigned amid growing political pressure linked to impeachment developments and the Phala Phala matter.
The latest comments are likely to spark political debate over the DA’s influence within the Government of National Unity and whether coalition partners are shaping key executive decisions.
