National Coloured Congress leader Fadiel Adams is en route to KwaZulu-Natal after being arrested at the Parliamentary Village in Cape Town on Tuesday.
Adams is wanted on charges of fraud and defeating the ends of justice, and is being transported by the Political Killings Task Team led by Nhlanhla Mkhwanazi, where he is expected to face further legal processes.
The South African Police Service confirmed that Adams was arrested after failing to present himself to authorities as previously instructed.
In a dramatic twist, just two days before his arrest, Adams had publicly criticised Mkhwanazi, calling him “the weakest police commissioner South Africa has had in the last 30 years.”
Now, Adams finds himself in the custody of the very task team led by Mkhwanazi, as he is taken to KwaZulu-Natal, where the unit is based.
The case against Adams is linked to allegations of interference in the investigation into the 2017 murder of ANC politician Sindiso Magaqa.
