Zulu Royal Chancellor Malusi Zondi has urged members of the public to exercise restraint and respect during ongoing marches and when expressing their views on social media platforms.
In a formal notice issued by the Office of the Zulu Royal Chancellor, in partnership with the Malusi Zondi Foundation, concern was raised over the increasing use of vulgar language and personal attacks, particularly online, during times of protest and public dissatisfaction.
Zondi emphasised that while citizens have a constitutional right to protest and voice their concerns, such expressions must be carried out with dignity, responsibility, and respect for others.
“It has been observed with concern that some individuals are using vulgar language and engaging in the insulting of others, particularly on social media platforms, when expressing their grievances,” the statement read.
The Chancellor called on the public to refrain from offensive language, avoid demeaning others, and uphold values that promote unity and mutual understanding.
“While every citizen has the constitutional right to protest and to voice their concerns, it is important that such expressions are carried out with dignity, respect, and responsibility.”
The statement further encouraged communities across KwaZulu-Natal and the broader country to ensure that public discourse — both on the ground and online — builds rather than divides society.
