Police officers from the Bike Squad unit in Parkweg, Gauteng, have arrested two suspects in connection with the possession of suspected khat plants.
First Arrest During Patrol
The first suspect, a foreign national, was arrested during a routine patrol after officers discovered khat plants estimated to be worth R15,000 in his possession.
Second Arrest at Police Station
A second suspect was later arrested at the police station after arriving to inquire about the first suspect. Police found him carrying a bag containing more of the same substance, leading to his immediate arrest.
What Is Khat?
Khat is a plant scientifically known as Catha edulis. Its leaves are commonly chewed for their stimulant effects, which can produce feelings of euphoria, increased alertness, and excitement.
