The funeral of legendary South African actor Seputla Sebogodi was filled with tears, laughter and heartfelt tributes as family, friends and colleagues gathered in Polokwane to bid him a final farewell.
One of the most emotional moments of the service came when his son, actor Thapelo Sebogodi, paid tribute to his late father.
Fighting back tears, Thapelo reflected on the life lessons his father had passed on to him, recalling how Seputla always encouraged him to broaden his horizons.
Sharing a light-hearted memory that briefly lifted the sombre mood, Thapelo told mourners that his father once joked that if he did not learn another language or learn how to sing, he would one day end up speaking “Sepitori” at his funeral. The story drew laughter from mourners as they celebrated the legendary actor’s sense of humour.
The funeral service also featured emotional tributes from other family members, including Seputla’s daughter, who described her father as her “first love, best friend and hero,” promising to honour his legacy and ensure future generations know the remarkable man he was.
Seputla Sebogodi was laid to rest on Saturday following a distinguished career spanning more than four decades in television, theatre and film. He was best known for his iconic roles as Nkwesheng in Bophelo ke Semphego and Kenneth Mashaba in Generations. He died on 15 July 2026 following complications related to diabetes.
