Shebeshxt Returns to Court for Third Bail Attempt

Controversial musician Lehlohonolo Katlego Chauke, popularly known as Shebeshxt, is expected to appear in the Polokwane Magistrate’s Court on Tuesday, 21 April 2026, as he makes a third attempt to secure bail.

New Lawyer, New Strategy

Shebeshxt will now be represented by attorney Michael Khumalo, replacing his previous legal representative Lot Ramusi.

During earlier proceedings, Khumalo indicated that the defence would return with a fresh bail application based on new facts, which will now be presented before the court.

Serious Charges

The 31-year-old musician faces nine serious charges, including:

  • Three counts of murder
  • Additional charges linked to a 2024 shooting incident in Ladanna, Polokwane, where two people lost their lives and another was critically injured

Previous Bail Attempts Rejected

Shebeshxt’s earlier attempts to secure bail were unsuccessful:

  • His initial application was dismissed in December 2025 by Magistrate Godfrey Netshiozwi
  • His appeal was later rejected by the High Court, with Judge A.J Burnett upholding the original decision

State Pushes Back

State prosecutor Mangope Digoro has cautioned that the new bail process may not be straightforward.

“Bail on new facts couldn’t be arranged today… arrangements will be made to bring the application,” he told the court.

The matter has since been transferred to the Polokwane Regional Court for further handling, a move that was not opposed by the defence.

What Happens Next

The court will now consider whether the new facts presented by the defence are strong enough to justify granting bail after two previous rejections.

The case continues to draw significant public attention as legal proceedings unfold.
