House of Zwide fans are convinced that some of the show’s onscreen chemistry spilled over into real life, after two of the telenovela’s most popular couples reportedly took their love beyond the cameras.
Actors Wanda Zuma and Shalate Sekhabi, who played Nkosi and Shoki on e.tv’s hit drama, recently celebrated their traditional union in a stylish lobola and umembeso ceremony that went viral on social media.
The couple confirmed their engagement in October 2024, but the weekend’s festivities marked their official sealing of the relationship, with Shalate sharing glimpses of the event on her Instagram Stories.
What caught viewers’ attention is that their co-stars Nefisa Mkhabela and Thato Dithebe, who portray Ona and Neo on the show, were in attendance at the ceremony. That has fueled speculation that the pair might also be dating off-screen, with some fans claiming they’ve been spotted being affectionate away from set.
The rumours have divided viewers. While many are celebrating what they call a “fairytale” crossover from script to reality, others are joking that the actors “forgot to debrief and became their characters”. One fan commented: “clearly they forgot to debrief and became their characters”.
Shalate and Wanda’s romance began on set during their four-year run as Nkosi and Shoki, a couple whose love story became a fan favourite before Shoki was written out following a car accident in the season 5 premiere. The actors kept their relationship private for a while before confirming it publicly last year.
Neither Nefisa nor Thato has addressed the dating rumours directly, and there’s been no official confirmation from the pair. But their presence at Wanda and Shalate’s traditional wedding has only added fuel to the fire.
For House of Zwide, which has been known for weaving real emotions into its fashion-driven drama since 2021, the real-life love stories have only deepened audience investment. As one viewer put it: “Sometimes the best storylines aren’t written in the script.”
