DJ Fresh Replaces Sizwe Dhlomo on Kaya 959 Breakfast Show

Veteran broadcaster DJ Fresh, born Thato Sikwane, is officially joining Kaya 959 and will take over the station’s flagship weekday breakfast show, replacing Sizwe Dhlomo.

The station announced that DJ Fresh will officially begin hosting the breakfast slot from Monday, 1 July 2026, airing weekdays from 06:00 to 09:00.

Joining him will be his long-time collaborator and trusted producer, Thato Mataboge, marking what Kaya 959 describes as one of the biggest talent acquisitions in South African radio.

DJ Fresh’s arrival comes just days after Kaya 959 confirmed that Sizwe Dhlomo would be leaving the breakfast show, ending an important chapter for the station’s morning programming.

Known for his larger-than-life personality and broadcasting career spanning more than three decades, DJ Fresh has become one of South Africa’s most recognised radio voices, having worked at major stations including YFM, 5FM, and Metro FM.

In a statement, Kaya 959 Acting Managing Executive David Tiltmann described DJ Fresh as “one of the most influential broadcasters South Africa has ever produced”, saying his arrival marks an exciting new chapter for the station.

DJ Fresh said returning to breakfast radio feels special and described the move as an opportunity to build a new connection with Kaya 959 listeners.

“This is a reunion 20 years in the making,” he said, referencing his reunion with Mpho Maboi and Thato Mataboge.

He added that he hopes to create a breakfast show that leaves listeners feeling informed, inspired, entertained and connected every morning.

The new show promises a mix of music, engaging conversations, humour, lifestyle content and topical discussions, as Kaya 959 looks to usher in a new era for its breakfast offering.
