Sbu Reveals He Turned Down R1 Billion Offer for MoFaya

South African musician and entrepreneur DJ Sbu has revealed that he and his business partners once declined a R1 billion offer to sell their energy drink brand, MoFaya.

Speaking on the Youth Hustle Hub podcast with Miles Khubeka, DJ Sbu shared that the opportunity to cash out was real — but he chose to hold on to the business.

“Value Is What Someone Is Willing to Pay”

According to Sbu, the decision was rooted in long-term vision and belief in the brand’s future value.

“Any brand or company is valued as much as the next person wants to pay for it,” he said.

He explained that patience is often key in business, suggesting that a better offer could come in the future.

Divided Views Among Partners

Sbu also revealed that not all partners were aligned at the time. Some were ready to sell and secure the payout, while others — including himself — preferred to continue building the brand.

In the end, the group decided against selling.

A Big Business Question

The revelation has sparked debate online, with many weighing in on whether turning down R1 billion was a bold move or a missed opportunity.
