Motsepe’s TymeBank Officially Rebrands to GoTyme Bank in Strategic Shift

TymeBank has officially rebranded to GoTyme Bank, signalling a new phase in the bank’s growth and global alignment under the Tyme Group.

The Tyme Group was founded in 2019 by Coenraad Jonker and Tjaart van der Walt, with backing from institutional shareholders, including billionaire businessman Patrice Motsepe. The group now operates across multiple markets and serves more than 20 million customers worldwide.

Announcing the change on Wednesday, 4 February, the bank said the new name better reflects its ambition and positioning.

“The GoTyme Bank brand more clearly expresses the bank’s global alignment and focus on delivering a modern, digital-first banking experience that is simple, transparent, and affordable,” the company said.

The bank emphasised that the rebrand does not affect customers’ accounts or services.

“This evolution of the bank’s brand reflects the scale, maturity, and ambition of the business, while maintaining full continuity for customers.”

New leadership, same fundamentals

GoTyme Bank’s new CEO, Cheslyn Jacobs, who assumed the role at the beginning of the year, said the rebrand reflects where the bank is today and where it is headed.

“This is not a change to our fundamentals. It’s the same bank, built on the same licence and principles, now expressed through a brand and platform that better reflects our scale, technology, and ambition,” Jacobs said.

New GoTyme app now live

As part of the transition, the new GoTyme Bank app went live on 22 January, with a phased migration of customers currently under way. The bank said the rollout is being carefully managed to prioritise security, system stability, and customer experience.

Additional features will be introduced progressively in the coming weeks, alongside improvements to payments, savings tools, and customer support. This phased approach will also allow the bank to incorporate customer feedback as it scales.

According to the company, the updated app offers:

A cleaner, more modern design Improved performance Stronger security features A more intuitive way to save, spend, send money, and manage finances

Importantly, existing customers do not need to open new accounts.

“All customer information – including accounts, balances, and transaction history – has already been migrated,” the bank said.

“Customers simply need to download the new GoTyme Bank app and sign in using their existing details.”

Brand refresh and future focus

GoTyme Bank’s head of brand, Lucia Malapane, said the rebrand was an opportunity to rethink how the bank connects with customers.

“The GoTyme brand is about momentum, clarity, and confidence, and the new app is where customers will experience that most directly,” she said.

Looking ahead, GoTyme Bank says it will continue investing in digital innovation, supported by the scale and technology of the global Tyme Group. The bank reiterated that it remains a fully licensed and regulated South African bank, with no changes to customer accounts, balances, products, ownership, or regulatory oversight.

The rebrand marks what the company describes as a confident step forward in delivering accessible, affordable, and empowering digital banking to millions of South Africans.
