ONE BRIEFING. A CRIMINAL JUSTICE SYSTEM UNDER INTENSE SCRUTINY.

Mkhwanazi’s allegations helped trigger a national reckoning over alleged corruption, criminal infiltration and interference in law enforcement. The Madlanga Commission and other investigations have since examined allegations involving officials across the police and other institutions.

The developments are significant, but dismissals and resignations are not, by themselves, proof of criminal guilt. Allegations against individuals must be assessed on the evidence and through the appropriate legal processes.
