South Africa is mourning the loss of legendary actor Seputla Sebogodi, who has died at the age of 63 following a long battle with diabetes. His family confirmed that he passed away on the evening of 15 July 2026 due to complications related to the chronic illness.
Sebogodi was one of South Africa’s most respected actors, with a career spanning more than four decades across television, film and theatre. He first rose to prominence for his portrayal of Nkwesheng in the popular Pedi drama Bophelo Ke Semphego, before becoming a household name as the ruthless businessman Kenneth Mashaba on Generations. Those roles cemented his place as one of the country’s finest performers.
Throughout his career, Sebogodi also starred in productions including Scandal!, Rhythm City, The River, Redemption, Gomora, How to Ruin Christmas, and numerous acclaimed theatre productions. His powerful performances earned him widespread admiration and several industry accolades.
Earlier this month, fans expressed concern after photographs of the veteran actor looking frail circulated on social media. It later emerged that the images were taken while he was in character for a theatre production at the National Arts Festival in Makhanda.
His family has requested privacy as they mourn his passing, while tributes continue to pour in from colleagues, fans and the broader South African entertainment industry.
