Kaizer Chiefsโ rising star Mduduzi โMduโ Shabalala has been ruled out for the remainder of the 2025/26 season after suffering a fractured arm.
The 22-year-old midfielder picked up the injury and is currently in hospital, with surgery expected to take place imminently. Doctors have estimated his recovery time at five to six weeks, which effectively ends his campaign with only a few weeks left in the Betway Premiership season.
Shabalala was forced off during Chiefsโ recent 1-1 draw against Mamelodi Sundowns at Loftus Versfeld on 5 May, and scans later confirmed the fracture. Itโs a major blow for both the player and Amakhosi, as Mdu has been one of their standout performers this season, regularly featuring in the number 10 role and earning over 100 appearances for the club since his debut under Arthur Zwane four years ago.
The timing couldnโt be worse for the Bafana Bafana international, who had been pushing for consistent game time and goals to cement his place ahead of next season. His absence also leaves Chiefs light in attacking options as they prepare to face Sekhukhune United on 10 May at Makhulong Stadium.
Chiefs havenโt yet confirmed whether Shabalala will be fit for pre-season, but the focus now shifts to ensuring a full recovery ahead of the 2026/27 campaign. Fans have already flooded social media with well-wishes for the youngster, using the hashtag #GetWellSoonMdu.
