A woman whose body was discovered in Villa Liza, near Dawn Park, remains unidentified after the person believed to be the victim returned home alive.
The family of 24-year-old Teballo Monamodi had believed that she was the woman found partially clothed in Villa Liza on Thursday. They reportedly identified the body at a state mortuary and began mourning her death.
However, Monamodi returned to her family home in Vosloorus alive on Saturday, bringing relief to relatives and neighbours while revealing that the body had been mistakenly identified.
“Guys, I’m still alive.”
Monamodi reportedly said the deceased woman shared some physical similarities with her, including blonde hair. She believes the resemblance may have caused the person who viewed the body to assume it was her.
Her family’s mistaken identification means authorities must now establish the true identity of the woman found in Villa Liza and trace her relatives.
The body was initially counted among several women found dead across Ekurhuleni in recent weeks. Police are investigating the deaths and examining available evidence to establish whether any of the cases are connected.
