Two women accused of raping a 25-year-old e-hailing driver in Cape Town are expected to appear in the Wynberg Magistrate’s Court today, Monday, 14 September, alongside three male suspects.
The five were arrested following the driver’s alleged kidnapping, sexual assault and detention for a R4,000 ransom.
The women are aged 23 and 34. The other suspects are two men aged 42 and 48 and a 16-year-old boy.
According to police, the driver had arranged to meet one of the women after becoming acquainted with her the previous week. On arrival, he was allegedly kidnapped and raped by the two women.
The suspects allegedly contacted his brother and demanded R4,000 for his release.
His brother alerted police, who used the vehicle’s tracking system to locate the driver. The operation resulted in his rescue and the arrest of the five suspects.
The group is expected to face charges relating to kidnapping and rape.
