Police have arrested two men aged 34 and 46 in connection with a R1.2 million meat order scam that unfolded between Limpopo and Gauteng.
How the Scam Was Planned
The incident began on 20 April 2026 when the General Manager of an agricultural hub in Naboomspruit (Mookgopong) received a call from a man posing as a representative of a catering company.
The caller:
- Placed a bulk meat order worth R1.2 million
- Promised payment via electronic transfer
- Submitted a proof of payment the following day
However, internal checks by the company’s finance division confirmed that no money had been received, and the proof of payment was fraudulent.
Police Set Up a Sting Operation
After the case was reported, police launched an intelligence-driven operation.
Investigators:
- Allowed the suspects to believe payment had gone through
- Arranged a controlled delivery to Jubilee Mall in Hammanskraal
- Dispatched a truck loaded with boxes disguised as meat, under surveillance
Arrest at the Scene
On 23 April 2026, the suspects walked straight into the trap:
- One suspect entered the truck and directed the driver
- A second suspect later arrived and assisted with guiding the delivery
Both were arrested on the spot before any goods were offloaded.
Court Appearance
The suspects are expected to appear before the Naboomspruit Magistrate’s Court on 24 April 2026, where they will face fraud charges.
