The family of Elizabeth “Tsontso” Moselakgomo says it is waiting for the completion of a post-mortem examination and other police processes before finalising arrangements for her funeral.
Moselakgomo, 38, was positively identified by her family at the Germiston mortuary on Monday, 14 September 2026, after she disappeared while out for her routine run in Kempton Park. (Mail & Guardian)
Her uncle and family spokesperson, Lt-Col Andries Moraka Matlala, said Moselakgomo’s body remains with authorities while the South African Police Service completes the post-mortem and other procedures connected to the investigation.
| “Upon the completion of the post-mortem and other processes that the SAPS is undergoing, they are going to release the body to us, and as soon as we receive the body, that’s when we can determine when we can have the funeral.”
The family originates from Mpumalanga and intends to bury Moselakgomo there, but no funeral date has been set. (Jacaranda FM)
Moselakgomo disappeared after leaving her home in the Rhodesfield area for a run. Her eight-year-old daughter was the first to realise something was wrong after her mother failed to return at the time she normally did and alerted relatives. (IOL)
Her body was subsequently discovered in Rhodesfield before her family formally identified her at the mortuary.
The post-mortem is now an important part of the investigation as police work to establish the circumstances surrounding Moselakgomo’s death.
Her case is also being investigated as police examine the deaths of several women whose bodies have been discovered in and around the Kempton Park area in recent months.
A multidisciplinary team of detectives and specialised police resources has been assigned to the investigations. Police have stressed that they have not yet established that the deaths are connected, and are examining each case individually while looking for possible links supported by evidence. (Sowetan)
For Moselakgomo’s family, the immediate process is now to wait for the post-mortem to be completed and her body to be released before a date can be set for her burial in Mpumalanga.
