The South African Police Service (SAPS) has announced a breakthrough in the murder investigation involving the ninth woman whose body was discovered in Ekurhuleni.
Three suspects — one man and two women — were arrested over the weekend by members of the Gauteng Murder and Robbery Unit in connection with the Dawn Park murder.
The trio is expected to appear before the Boksburg Park Magistrates’ Court today, where further details about the case are expected to emerge.
The latest development comes after the woman’s body was discovered in the Dawn Park area on Thursday, 17 September, adding to a series of cases involving women whose bodies have been found at different locations across Ekurhuleni since July.
The arrests represent the first major breakthrough publicly announced in connection with the latest case.
Acting National Commissioner of SAPS, Lieutenant General Puleng Dimpane, said police are treating all nine murder cases as a priority.
“We remain committed to ensuring that these investigations are pursued with the urgency and determination they require. Our investigators are following all available leads and are working tirelessly to bring those responsible to justice,” said Lieutenant General Dimpane.
SAPS said further details regarding the Dawn Park murder will be ventilated in court.
While investigators are dealing with all nine murder cases, police have not said that the nine deaths have been conclusively linked to one another. Each case continues to receive priority attention as investigators work to establish the circumstances surrounding the deaths and determine whether connections exist.
The court appearance is expected to shed more light on the allegations against the three suspects and the evidence linking them to the Dawn Park murder.
