Search intensifies for missing Kempton Park runner as police warn women to exercise caution

Gauteng police have intensified the search for 38-year-old Elizabeth Mokolo Moselakgomo, also known as “Tsontso”, who disappeared after leaving her Rhodesfield home for an afternoon run.

Moselakgomo reportedly went running after work on Wednesday evening but never returned. Her eight-year-old daughter raised the alarm after her mother failed to arrive home and contacted relatives, who subsequently reported her missing.

Police have followed several leads and conducted enquiries at hospitals and mortuaries, but have not yet located her.

The search comes amid growing concern over the discovery of four women’s bodies in the Kempton Park area over approximately two months.

Police say there are concerning similarities between the cases, but have not confirmed that the deaths are connected or that a serial killer is operating in the area.

A multidisciplinary task team comprising specialised detectives, including members of the Murder and Robbery Unit and Investigative Psychology Unit, has been established to investigate the cases and determine whether there is a connection.

SAPS spokesperson Brigadier Athlenda Mathe urged women in and around Kempton Park, particularly Rhodesfield, to remain vigilant.

“We urge women to remain vigilant, while assuring the community that specialised police resources have been mobilised.”

Women have been advised not to walk or run alone, particularly in isolated places, and to exercise in groups wherever possible.

Anyone who has seen Moselakgomo or has information that could help locate her should contact investigating officer Warrant Officer Elvis Manyike on 082 465 7249 or submit information anonymously through the MySAPS app.

Police have stressed that even information that appears insignificant could assist the investigation.
