Ramaphosa Fires Social Development Minister Sisisi Tolashe

President Cyril Ramaphosa has removed Sisisi Tolashe from her position as Minister of Social Development.

The Presidency confirmed that Ramaphosa acted in terms of Section 91(2) of the Constitution of the Republic of South Africa, 1996, which gives the President the authority to appoint and dismiss ministers.

In the interim, Ramaphosa has appointed Sindisiwe Chikunga, who currently serves as Minister in the Presidency for Women, Youth and Persons with Disabilities, as the acting Minister of Social Development pending a permanent appointment.

The Presidency has not yet provided reasons for Tolashe’s dismissal, with further details expected in due course.
