Nurse Admits Taking Out Insurance on Teen, Denies Role in Murder

Sthembile Xulu appeared in court again alongside her co-accused, reportedly her former garden worker, in a case that has shocked many.

Alleged Recruitment of Victim

The court heard that Xulu allegedly contacted a woman in Nongoma, asking about her child’s schooling. She then offered the young girl, Busisiwe Nxumalo, an opportunity to come to Johannesburg to work in her home.

Insurance Policies Taken Out

According to evidence presented:

  • The victim was allegedly taken to Johannesburg under the promise of employment
  • Multiple insurance policies worth around R6 million were taken out in her name
  • It is alleged that the policies were structured to benefit Xulu

It is further claimed that the accused manipulated the process to make it appear as though the victim herself had taken out the policies.

Murder Allegations

The State alleges that after approximately four months, once the policies were active, Xulu instructed her co-accused to kill the victim.

The court heard that Busisiwe Nxumalo was killed by having her throat slit.

Accused Denies Involvement in Killing

Xulu has admitted in court that:

  • She did take out the insurance policies

However, she denies any involvement in the murder.

Case Continues

The matter remains before the court as proceedings continue, with more evidence expected to be presented.
