Galston Anthony, a “Mozambican-American” national who identifies as South African, has publicly challenged Phakel’umthakathi to a fight in the ring, putting R1 million on the line.
Anthony said the challenge is not only about settling differences but also about redirecting public attention towards issues affecting South Africans.
He further stated that Phakel’umthakathi could work with him in campaigns against gender-based violence, crime and the alleged looting of government funds by politicians.
Anthony then added conditions to the proposed boxing match.
According to him, if he wins the fight, Phakel’umthakathi must stop participating in marches against undocumented foreign nationals.
However, if Phakel’umthakathi wins, Anthony says he will stop pursuing his political ambitions without asking any questions.
The challenge has sparked mixed reactions online, with some seeing it as entertainment while others questioned whether public debates around immigration and governance should be turned into public spectacle.
At this stage, there has been no public confirmation on whether Phakel’umthakathi intends to accept the challenge.
